Make the Most of the College Experience by Studying Abroad

The college experience is meant to be learning and growing endeavor where one gathers knowledge. What better way to gather knowledge than to learn by studying abroad?

Be realistic for a minute. The year’s after college are hopefully going to be filled with a job, a partner, a better car, a house and probably some kids. Once the demands of a full-time job and other responsibilities engulf your life, the chances of taking a trip to some far off destination are probably years and maybe decades away.

The list of advantages of studying abroad is lengthy.

•    Learning a new language: In a tough and competitive job environment, it’s important to have multi-lingual skills at your fingertips. A second language opens up different opportunities and increases a college graduates hireability. A second language, or even seeing another part of the world generally focuses young people on their long-term goals.

•    Learning a different culture: For many the college year’s are about trying new things and getting to understand different points of view. What better way to hear and see what other cultures are thinking and doing by taking a year to study in a different part of the world?

•    Interpersonal skills: One of the biggest challenges in jobs and careers is dealing with customers and clients and even co-workers. A trip abroad improves general communication skills and again makes the studier a better hire.

•    Have some fun: The years after college are going to be filled with plenty of non-fun activities. As the years go by, the responsibilities increase exponentially. Studying abroad can be a great way to try new things and open new doors.
